Stream-TV 1.8 - Major Changes (coming in Jun)

Stream-TV receives a major update with several changes in interface and theming abilities, extra features which turns Stream-TV into a beginner level media center with search capabilities, radio and music tabs, local network integration import export and some bug fix, here is the list:

New Features:

• "Notifications instead of Progress" - ver 1.8 introduced progress indicator for setting actions as a blocking mode modal (so you can't do any action until the setup is done), this minor change remove the progress indicator and replaces it with a notification that is visible in the upper right corner until the action is done, while allowing you to perform other actions - it will not allow you to perform actions that will interfere with the current setup action.
• "Black Theme as Default" - until 1.8 the TV tab had a default of white background color and the Video tab had a black background default color, from 1.8 both tabs get the black background color as a default
• "Remote Shake To Replay" - increased time the logo of the remote display on screen after shake remote to replay occur, from 1.4 seconds to 2.9 seconds
• "Last Browsed Channel" - the "Channel Browser" always save the last channel you watched when exiting the Channel Browser, now it will save the last channel you played the second it starts playing the channel
• "Default Search Term" - while searching a new logo for a channel the default search term until today was empty and you should have write what to search, from 1.8 the default search term is the channel name
• "BBCodes Clear" - ver 1.8 will clear all BBCodes from the supplied EXTInfo providers, (BBCodes of the form: [Color white] [/COLOR] [B] [/B] ...
• "More Providers" - M3U providers without all the attribute at the first line will be parsed successfully, also supported providers using coma (,) or space as delimiter
• "Error Video-Loop" - while browsing channels in the Channel Browser, if an Invalid URL error occur, then a video loop is displayed notifying you about the error
• "VLC Only Message" - in the Channel Browser there is now a message alerting you that this type of video cannot be viewed in the preview window and can only be played by a VLC player from TV tab
• "UTF8 URLs" - made sure that foreign characters in supplied URL are supported (for providers, images, video streams, search terms etc.)
• "Name your Collection" - 1.8 introduces collection naming, a label appear above each channels / movies collection that you can set from the Options menu, the label is optional and by default empty, if you wish to set it, simply stand on one of your channel icons long press it and click on the "Rename Collection" option, then enter the name you want and click OK, the label will appear in the appropriate tab (TV or Videos) above the collection you used
• "Backup to File" - Backup all your settings into a JSON format file, you can export the file to SMB local network share, the backup includes ExtInfo/M3U providers, channel set in the TV tab and Video Tab, last entered textfield values, collection names, TopShelf setup etc.
• ״Restore from File" - Restore all settings of Stream-TV, the settings should be in a JSON format file (exported from "Backup to File" option), the file should be on a share drive from a computer on your local network (supporting SMB, xSMB, Samba for windows, OS X and linux machines), the restore option will delete all content and restore the backup settings on the file (iCloud data will not change and will not be deleted), you can also restore into a newly downloaded copy of stream-tv, or on a new installed apple tv. 
• "Restore from URL" - now you can restore all setup from a JSON file, simply goto Settings -> Restore from File -> enter the file URL (the file URL can be from a dropbox file share URL or from google drive and alike) and press OK, and all your settings will be restored, this includes: collection titles, tabs background color, channels in each collection (with set name, logo, url in the same order), top shelf size, which collection should appear on the top shelf, providers urls, etc.
• "Tab Bar Customization" - in the settings menu there are now more theming options, the tab bar can be customized, you can decide which tab will appear on the app (for instance if you decide to hide video tab), you can also decide to show tabs as text or icons or both, and control the tab bar background color (semi transparent, or solid color)
• "Settings Icons" - several icons in the settings tab has been changed (background color icons, and top shelf size...)
• "Transparent TabBar" - Tabbar is transparent by default, and in a cover over the screen (autohide) behavior
• "More Tabs Added" - Radio, Music and Serach tabs were added, the radio tab will behave like the tv tab but the channel browser will display only the radio channels (in M3U file the stream appears as isRadio="true"), Music is for local network mp3 and audio files, search allows to find a stream or channels based on their name
• "Background Image" - in the settings tab you can select a background image to decorate the content tabs (Tv, Video, Radio, Music), there are several background images to choose from, in order to remove the image and go back to background color, simply select a background color in any one of the tabs and the background image setup will be erased
• "Search Tab" - Search tab is now available from the main tab bar, at first it is loaded with all of your streams from TV, Video, Radio and Music tabs, when you start entering letters into the search keyboard - the stream icons are filtered and you can start watching by pressing the stream icon, the other options are not available on this tab (edit stream, add new stream...)
• "Radio Tab with Channel Browser" - the Radio tab has a channel browser that shows only radio channels (if they are marked as isRadio="true" in the providers m3u file)

the accepted testers will receive instructions on how to install and test the app, what are the new features to test and where to send bugs, feedback and issues found,

Version 1.7 - iCloud support

Stream-TV 1.7 Has been released


Stream-TV version 1.7 for Apple-TV has been released, and now is available for download from the
Apple TV AppStore.

1.7 include many features, among them:
- wide range of video stream format supported (RTSP, RTMP, MMS, MKV...)
- the ability to update stream URL from providers automatically
- multiple M3U / ExtInfo providers (tested with 6500+ channels)
- iCloud integration
- play in the background (play an audio stream or a video using VLC player, then press Menu on the remote - the app will go into the background while audio is still available)

Stream-TV Ver 1.7 - coming April 2016

Next version is coming this month (Apr-2016), it packs many changes to the UI, the "Channel Browser", also added support to more video formats, supported M3U formats has extra addition as well, iCloud integration, ability to add multiple M3U providers and there are also several bugs fix, here is the complete list.

New Features:

• "More Video Formats" - version 1.7 packs TV-VLC-Kit as an additional player to allow multiple new video formats such as: RTSP, RTMP, RTMPE, MMS, MMSH,FLV, MKV... though this is the first build with VLC, good streams show up nicely almost as http streams, one thing - due to lower VLC performance these streams will not be available via channel browser for preview 
• "Update Channels" - update channels video stream url from (re)downloaded m3u file, some times the channel stream url are no longer valid, the m3u file provider update the url in the m3u file, in order to update all the channels you added to the TV tab from the m3u file - goto settings screen, make sure the EXTInfo URL Provider textfield has the file url, then press once on the "Update Channels" button and wait until the progress indicator disappear, then all the available channels in the TV tab that are available in the m3u file will be up to date.
• "Multiple M3U Providers" - The new Provider settings screen allow multiple m3u providers, allowing each provider its own url and logo base url (or not, logo base is optional), in this manner you can reach thousands of channels from different providers (the screen also allow delete of existing providers and reordering the providers)
• "Prevent ScreenSaver" - prevent the screen saver of the Apple TV from working while app is up and running
• "Shake to RePlay" - The most annoying thing that can happen while streaming a video / TV is that the stream hangs or freeze, this is why i added the new shake the remote feature to quickly restart playing the stream, most of the cases i checked it solved the freeze problem, this feature is available in full screen player and in channel browser preview player
• "Remember Last Channel Browsed" - when exiting channel browser now it remembers the last browsed channel and when entering again to the channel browser it will display the same channel again (even if the app is closed from the app switcher)
• "iCloud Supported" - ver 1.7 implements iCloud integration, allowing you to save all downloaded channels from the providers into iCloud account (and not on the local Apple TV device), this way when you download channels or update them, they will be available on your other apple tv devices without any other effort, the iCloud integration also allow infinite number of channels (i tested more then 4,500), and in upcoming versions will allow channels setup for each user (like in netflix app), this will be possible due to the use of iCloud (don't worry - it will be optional)
• "Auto Full Screen" - while playing a video channel in channel browser in preview mode and no remote movements occur for more then 10 seconds - the player screen will auto resize to full screen, to allow convenient viewing (it is even a good way to view channels and have satisfying viewing experience), if the "Menu" button on the remote is clicked the screen will shrink back and return to preview mode and start 10 seconds countdown again (this will not occur to channels marked as radio since they have no video stream)
• "New Settings Screen" - Settings screen completely redesigned in order to support future settings entries and separated screens for each entry
• "Video Color Selection" - a new Video color selection preview screen has been added (ver 1.6 used the same preview screen for video and tv color change)
• "Set TopShelf" - added option in the longPress option popup menu which allow you to set what is the channels collection you want to appear in the Apple TV "Top Shelf" (when the app icon is at the home screen top shelf), rather then just the first collection be the top shelf icons
• "Top Shelf Size" - in the setting tab, in the theming section added a new option to set the top shelf icon size (there are three options of sizes to choose from)
• "Red Delete Button" - the "Delete this Channel" button in the popup menu has now a red color to alert you that this action is destructive action
• "Play using VLC Player" - Stream-TV decides based on stream protocol what player to use (Apple AVPlayer or VLCPlayer), but you can select from the options menu using the button "Play using VLC" option to play current channel using the VLC player
• "Background Channel Loading" - the loading of the app just got better due to the background features of loading channels at startup time and during channels download or update
• "Delete All Channels option" - from the Settings tab you can now delete all channels that are available in the "Channel Browser" screen
• "Refresh Channels option" - from the Settings tab you can now refresh all channels that are available in the "Channel Browser" screen, this will redownload the channels from iCloud, this is especially useful if you changed channels settings in one Apple TV and would like to redownload on another Apple TV, this action will occur automatically when launching the up or bringing it into focus from the app switcher
• "HTML M3U supported" - another format was added to supported M3U formats, now you can add an ExtInfo Provider that is an HTMl file and not just text file, "Stream-TV" will strip the page from HTML tags and leave only the text values ending up with raw M3U file that can be parsed into channels, a good example to use is: http://www.oneplaylist.eu.pn/index.php/database/exportall
• "Interactive Alerts" - many alerts were added in order to notify and alert the user on actions and if problems occur, each alert has a "bug submit" URL at the bottom
• "About Tab" - About tab added with the version details so you can know what version you are on, also some numbers on how many tv channels and videos are set etc., at the bottom of the screen you can find several links for bug report, more info etc.
• "Play in the Background" - last minute addition, while playing an audio only stream (or any stream using the VLC player) you can press "Home" button on the siri remote and the app will exit to the home screen leaving the sound playing in the background allowing you to browse apps, activate the screen saver or watch photos while listening...
• "Play/Pause remote Button" - when you click the siri remote on the play or pause button from the TV or Video tab, the current selected stream will start playing

Bug Fixed:

• "Crash Bugs Fixed" - several crash bugs found during the development and unit testing and fixed, this should reduce crash occurrence to minimum
• "Channel Browser scroll" - when returning to channel browser from TV tab the channel browser would auto scroll to the top of the current scroll page (instead of staying on the previous selected channel) - fixed
• "Color Picker Default" - default color picker screen background color now loads the currently selected color when it opens (and not the default colors black or white)
• "Scroll on Edge" - until ver 1.6  when you scrolled the TV channels on the first or last column (up or down) the channel browser would sometimes appear although you didn't meant to (it thought we were swiping left or right) and vise versa, when you swipe up or down in the channel browser sometimes the browser would exit into TV tab (as if we swiped right), this bug was fixed now you can swipe or scroll on the edge of TV tab and channel browser without problems and when you would like to add a channel by swipe on the edge you really have to make the gesture in order to add
• "Default Selected Channel" - until 1.7 the default selected channel in the tv and channel browser was channel no. 2, and now its set to channel no.1
• "Faster first load" - increased the speed the app launches at least by 1 second less then previous versions

next month version will include easier ability to search and filter the Channel browser and the TV / Video tabs and a planned radio tab will be added, this would be a good time to submit new feature requests and bug reports at: The Redmine Site

2). The second format is double liner that looks exactly the same but without attributes (e.g. tvg-logo, epg-id, group-title, etc), second line contains Channel stream URL, empty lines are ignored, lines starting with # are ignored.

the format that the Stream-TV will support in the near future will expand to more m3u formats, Xml, etc.

Ver 1.6 finally available on the TV App Store

finally today Apple has approved version 1.6 to be released to the app store (it took time!!),

this is a version with several improvements, and bugs fixed,

i suggest everyone to download it and enjoy allot of bugs fix (especially the pesky bug about channel browser not being added),

Stream-TV 1.6 - coming this month

Next version is coming this month (Mar-2016) with several bug fix and new features, here is the list:

New Features:

• "Add New Channel" - this option from the options screen (appears after a long press on an icon) has been made default (moved to be the first entry on the options screen)
• "Search New Logo" - you can now search google for logo images directly from the app and set a new logo for your channel directly from the TV in an easy and convenient manner
• Add from Channel Browser as Default - until now Drag right or Down at the end of the channels list caused a + icon to be revealed which added a channel using the "Manual Add Channel" screen, from version 1.6 it will be using the channel browser as default, if M3U file is not set to the ExtInf Provider URL in the setting screen then manual add will be the default
• Image Cache - version 1.5 has downloaded channel images every time the app was launched, even if appleTV did not evacuated the cache files, version 1.6 is using cache more efficiently in order to increase performance
• Channel Browser Improvements - in the channel browser the preview screen is now larger, underneath the preview screen a channel icon, category and description has been added (if description and category is available from M3U file)
• Progress Indicator - activities that involves time (usually requires network) such as "Download Channels", Init TV screen, Init Video screen etc. will display progress indicator (spinning wheel) while work is in progress
• Background Colors - in addition to black and white backgrounds there is now a color selector to allow any background color for the TV and Video screens, channel browser will shade as the TV background color, Settings screen (and image search) will remain the same background color, the color selection is done using a color selector from the setting screen
• Channel Browser Index - in the channel browser you now have a channel number (index) next to the channel name, and above the upper right corner of the preview screen there is a total channels number so you can see what channel out of how many you are now browsing
• Splash Image - a splash image added to the app, when app is loading
• more in the works

Bugs Fixed:

• Stability bugs - several bugs causing the app to crash has been fixed
• Logos does not appear - logos from m3u file does not appear and default logo appears instead of them if the m3u file contains full path url, or if the "TV Channels Logo Provider URL" in the setting screen is empty
• ExtInf Provider does not clear - press on "Clear All Content" does not remove "TV Channels ExtInf Provider URL" value (it clears only after app is removed and reopened)
• Logo Provider does not clear - press on "Clear All Content" does not remove "TV Channels Logo Provider URL" value (it clears only after app is removed and reopened)
• ExtInf Provider does not save - when entering a value in the "TV Channels ExtInf Provider URL" textfield in the "Settings" screen does not save (unless "Download Channels List" is pressed)
• Logo Provider does not save - when entering a value in the "TV Channels Logo Provider URL" textfield in the "Settings" screen does not save (unless "Download Channels List" is pressed)
• ExtInf Provider Default value - the value of the TextField "TV Channels ExtInf Provider URL" is a value instead of a placeHolder, causes the need to delete default value instead of entering text right away
• Logo Provider Default value - the value of the TextField "TV Channels Logo Provider URL" is a value instead of a placeHolder, causes the need to delete default value instead of entering text right away
• Video tab does not clear - if  "Restore Default Content" has been pressed, then a "Clear All Content" has been pressed, then a visit to the TV tab will show cleared screen, but next visit to Video tab will show default content

• Browsing Channels - in version 1.5 browsing channels in the channel browser caused every channel that you swiped through to be played and paused, version 1.6 improve this and wait for the user to stop swiping and select a channel and only then play the stream (saves network, performance and smoother experience)
• Channel Browser - while moving from TV tab to any other tab and back the first view of Channel Browser would be off screen
• Color Defaults - the defaults of background colors always white when pressing "Restore Defaults" and after first load
• Restore Values - "Restore Default Values" restore the textfields values but not the saved values which affects the download channels feature
• Download Channels - after closing the app completely and launching back again the channel browser does not appear until another "Download Channels" pressed
